Focus and Scope

The journal encourages authors to frame their research questions and discuss their results in terms of the major questions of plant biology and agriculture, thereby maximizing the impact, spreading and value of their research. The papers must be of potential interest to a significant number of scientists and, if specific to a local situation, must be relevant to a wide body of knowledge in biology and agronomy. Articles should make a significant contribution to the advancement of knowledge or toward a better understanding of existing biological and agricultural concepts. An international Editorial Board advises the journal. The total content of the journal may be used for educational, non-profit purposes without regard to copyright. The distribution of the material is encouraged with the condition that the authors and the source (Notulae Botanicae Horti Agrobotanici Cluj-Napoca or Not Bot Horti Agrobo) are mentioned.

Peer Review Process

In the first instance, the journal editor evaluates papers submitted to the journal, and determines if the manuscript is suitable and appropriate for the journal. The editor, in consultation with the board of editors, will decide if the article will be accepted for publishing, "as it is", "with minor revisions", "with moderate revisions", "with major revisions" or "reject". After editorial scrutiny, if minor or moderate revisions are considered and recommended before publish, the papers are sent (using OJS systems) for peer review to two-four independent reviewers (international experts in the field, chosen by members of editorial board), which therefore takes the form of a technical advice to the editor. For "major revisions", the editor could return the article to the authors for improvement, or send a manuscript to two specialists (referees) asking them to answer standard questions about the paper and to provide written comments for the authors. Following review, articles are uploaded on the authors account journal pages (authors can see immediately), with expert suggestions and recommendations for improvement, respectively for revision before final acceptance. The authors should revise the manuscript in accordance with the referee's opinions as soon as possible and upload it back to the editorial department of the journal. If the manuscript with reviewers' Track Changes comments was sent to them, it should be returned along with revised manuscript. It is necessary to respond to all comments made by reviewers and to state unambiguously how they were accepted (what alterations were made in the text) or if there are any authors' objections to these comments and why they cannot be respected. The authors can disagree with the reviewer's opinion but they should reason their own opinion in a written separately form. Editors will consider authors' opinions carefully but they are not obliged to accept their objections. In all cases, the Editor will take the final decision and could make some modifications in text, including as edit style, arrangement, and language adaptations before publishing.
